CASE STUDY

When average values are not enough

A measurement campaign at the main switchboard to observe fast voltage disturbances that average values alone do not reveal.

The context

The power supply to a production area in a manufacturing plant was monitored for approximately one week. Recording at the main switchboard captured a range of load conditions.

The findings

The main electrical indicators showed few significant concerns overall. Waveform analysis, however, revealed fast voltage transients coinciding with current pulses.

Technical interpretation

An assessment based solely on average or RMS values does not fully capture these phenomena. The coincidence of voltage disturbances and current pulses warrants further investigation, without automatically attributing their origin to a specific load.

NEXT STEPS

The measurements at the main switchboard do not identify the source of the pulses. The next step is a targeted investigation to correlate events with load operation and assess how to reduce their effect on voltage.
