HIGH-FREQUENCY DISTURBANCES

Supraharmonics up to approximately 10 kHz

Converters, inverters, power supplies and charging systems can introduce high-frequency components. Here we consider solutions for components between 2 and approximately 10 kHz: broadband passive filters and damped networks, selected using the spectrum and installation impedance.

A frequency range requiring specific measurements

Supraharmonics commonly cover 2–150 kHz. The solutions on this page focus on the portion between 2 and approximately 10 kHz. Suitable measurement bandwidth is required: THD alone does not describe these disturbances.

Filtering and installation measures

Options include broadband passive filters, damped high-pass networks and measures close to the source. Required attenuation must be defined at the measured frequencies and checked for the proposed model. An active filter for conventional harmonics does not automatically provide compensation up to 10 kHz.

Interactions to check

Network impedance, cables and capacitors can change propagation and create local amplification. Common-mode and differential-mode components, and any power-line communication systems, need to be considered.

How Studio PQM helps

Definition of measurement requirements, investigation of sources and assessment of solutions using relevant technical documentation. Verification covers the affected frequency range and the behaviour of the equipment involved.

Compare ranges and features · 2 configurations

General guidance by solution type, using a 400 V low-voltage supply as reference. Ranges summarise the ratings considered and do not imply that all combinations are available. Connection, rating and actual performance must be checked for the project.

The scope here is 2 to approximately 10 kHz. Actual bandwidth and attenuation must be verified for the selected filter and installation impedance. Filter current is not total load current; coverage of the full 2–150 kHz range is not claimed.

Combined transient protection and filtering devices may complement high-frequency interference mitigation. Suitability within 2 to approximately 10 kHz requires the selected model’s attenuation curve. Transient protection →
